A Good Vacuum Cleaner is A Must!

I know what you're saying, "But there are so many to choose from!" There are two types of vacuum cleaners: the upright and the canister style. The upright is good for vacuuming if you have a lot of wall to wall carpeting. They are powerful and have brushes that lightly beat the carpet to draw out dirt and suck it up into a bag. Uprights also come with attachments, like a hose, wand, crevice tool and brushes for hardwood floors and furniture. A canister style vacuum is great for carpets and area rugs, floors, stairs and furniture. It is light weight too. You can also almost always get the beater floor attachment under just about anything. They are easy to store away and great for apartments. Personally, I recommend the canister style for its multi purpose use, especially if you have hardwood floors. Go to a vacuum store and try out their vacuums. Yes use them on the stores carpet to get a feel if you would like them. Also buy well know brands like Hover or Eureka, it is easier to get parts and service for them.

Read the manual, and follow instructions. Take your vacuum in for a yearly maintainance tune-up. They are machines too, you know. Always disconnect your vacuum from the wall outlet when changing the bag, belt or dislodging something that got caught in the beater brush area. Keep spare vacuum belts and vacuum bags on hand. There's nothing worse than a belt breaking in the middle of your vacuuming and you are getting ready for dinner party. If the bag is full, the vacuum will not suck up dirt and you could damage your vacuum.
